Stanley Cohen OBITUARY
Dr. Stanley Gordon Cohen (89) passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on June 30th, 2025, in San Rafael, CA. He was born on September 11, 1935, to Jacques Cohen and Ida (Gittler) Cohen. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathleen (White) Cohen, his three children Bernadette (Kenneth) Miller, Jonathan (Courtney) Cohen, Jennifer (George) Cohen, and his grandchildren, Kelsey Cohen, Cole Miller, Alex Miller, Elliott Cohen-Mann, August Cohen-Mann, Arthur Cohen-Mann, and Ida Cohen-Mann. His death was preceded by his first wife, Pamela (Cullen) Jester (mother to Bernadette and Jonathan), and his sister, Eleanor (Cohen) Krafchick.
Dr. Cohen grew up in the Bronx, where he attended William Howard Taft High School. He went on to receive his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and his medical degree from Chicago Medical School. After completing medical school, he moved to Southern California for his residency and internship. During his residency, Dr. Cohen served in Vietnam as a doctor in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) unit as a Major. After returning, he practiced Urology in Orange County until he retired at age 75. He was affiliated with both Garden Grove and St. Joseph Hospitals. He and Kathleen (Kathie) lived in Villa Park, CA until 2019 when they relocated to the Bay Area to be closer to family.
His family will remember him as a warm, humorous, intelligent, genuine, curious, and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, friend, and physician. People were drawn to his humor and authenticity, and he was beloved by his patients and colleagues. His greatest joys in life were his family, music, movies (he could recite many by heart), practicing medicine, the ocean, striking up conversations with anyone, and a nice meal with good company. He will be dearly missed.
