Robert D. Mc Cumsey OBITUARY

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Mc Cumsey, who passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, in Laguna Niguel, CA, after several years of declining health.

Robert Dean Mc Cumsey was a Builder/Developer and Real Estate Broker for the last 75 years. He was a respected member of his profession, known as a consummate professional, a profound communicator with endearing charm.

He was born in San Bernardino, CA, to Ida & Bert Mc Cumsey. He attended Elliot Grade School, where he met his future bride & love of his life, Jeri Jean Forsythe, daughter of Tibi & Raymond Forsythe. The two met in the 5th Grade and continued their relationship throughout their formable years, subsequently marrying in 1954.

His early career began as a loan broker for Smith & Son’s Mortgage, later a custom home & multifamily builder in the Inland Empire. At the insistence of Jeri, who wanted out of San Bernardino, the couple relocated to Laguna Niguel, CA, where he began marketing several REO subdivisions for CalFed Savings & Loan, specifically La Veta & Pacific Island Village.

Bob’s successful career continued with the Donald L. Bren Company, as Marketing Director for Harbor View Homes “The Port Streets”, as well as Greentree in Irvine and Huntington View Homes in Huntington Beach.

Bob furthered his career with John D. Lusk, developing & marketing Spyglass Hill in Newport, Turtle Rock in Irvine, Huntington Harbor in Huntington Beach, as well as Menifee Village in Riverside, CA.

Bob, Jeri & their two Son’s, Robert & Mark relocated to Newport Beach to “The Yacht Streets”, which of course overlooked all “The Port Streets”, which always made Bob smile as he monitored the growing community’s progress from his backyard while gardening, barbecuing or tending to his beloved koi pond.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob was a devoted family man who lived life to the fullest, instilling that belief to all who surrounded him.

He was a beloved husband to Jeri, a talented watercolor artist, homemaker, and devoted father to Robert & Mark Mc Cumsey. His positive outlook on life & merits made him a cherished and loyal friend to many.

In his free time, Bob was a dedicated motorsports enthusiast, enjoying NASCAR, Indy Cars & Formula 1, all of which brought him great joy and relaxation.

On any race weekend, you’d find Bob and his son Robert atop their motor coach or in the Pits at Ontario Motor Speedway, Riverside International Raceway, Phoenix Raceway, or Indianapolis Speedway, attending the 500 10 consecutive years. He truly loved his family & motor racing.

Robert D. Mc Cumsey will now join his bride Jeri, who he lost 11 years prior, and survived by sons Robert & Mark, grandson Trevor Lindsey, wife Leslie & great-grandson Kennedy.

A Celebration of Life service was held in La Quinta, CA, on May 3rd, 2025.

Robert will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and his legacy will live on through his family, friends, and colleagues.
