2. Jasper Plum

2425 Park Ave., Tustin; 714-258-7608

jasperplum.com

Jasper Plum was created for the style-conscious, chic, modern and trendy woman. The store offers a comprehensive collection of apparel and accessories to suit every style and occasion, while allowing shoppers to be budget-conscious without sacrificing quality.

The more than 1,300-square-foot store carries everything from jeans to sunglasses, yoga pants to purses.

“We try to have something for everybody … mothers, daughters, mostly anybody 20 to 50 years old,” says owner Sandy Garcia-Ekizian.

The store was originally called Madison Blue when The District opened nearly 10 years ago. Garcia-Ekizian and her two daughters – Korin and Kylie – took over Jasper Plum in June 2016.

“It’s been a good experience for us,” said Garcia-Ekizian. “Being here at The District has been great. We hope the growth here will lead to us open more stores in Orange County and develop more of an online presence.”

Jasper Plum is open 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday.

3. Chico’s

Multiple locations

chicos.com

Chico’s was founded in 1983 when Helene Gralnick and her husband, Marvin, opened a small boutique selling Mexican folk art on Sanibel Island in Florida.

“Folk art is one-of-a-kind. If we sold a piece it was gone, and we would have to go back to Mexico and try to find something to replace it,” Helene Gralnick says in an interview on the store’s website. “Then, we found this sweater that was practically one-size-fits-all. It was for men, it was for women, it was for kids— we called it ‘unifamily.’ That one sweater is what got us into the clothing business almost 35 years ago.”

Since then, the business has grown to more than 700 boutiques nationwide – including 10 in Orange County – a monthly catalog, and round-the-clock shopping at chicos.com.

Chico’s primarily sells private branded clothing for women, with a focus on jackets, statement jewelry and clothing with bold prints and patterns. The store and its website also stock more than 245 petite styles for women 5 foot 4 and under.

Chico’s Orange County locations are in Costa Mesa, Irvine, Brea, Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente.

Gauchos receiving praise locally, nationally https://www.ocregister.com/2017/09/20/gauchos-receiving-praise-locally-nationally/ https://www.ocregister.com/2017/09/20/gauchos-receiving-praise-locally-nationally/#respond Wed, 20 Sep 2017 17:52:32 +0000 https://www.ocregister.com?p=6015670&preview_id=6015670 The Saddleback College football team is off to a 3-0 start and with winning comes praise from the various media outlets. The Gauchos had two more players win player-of-the-week honors this week while moving up to No. 8 in the country in the national rankings.

For the second week in a row, Saddleback took home two player-of-the-week honors handed out by the Southern California Football Association as Chris Spiering was named offensive player-of-the-week and Corey Selenski was chosen as the special teams/all-purpose player-of-the-week for the National Division Southern League.

Spiering had one of the great stat lines you will ever see for a wide receiver on Saturday when he made seven grabs for 209 yards and three touchdowns – averaging an unthinkable 29.9 yards-per-catch. The sophomore from Carlsbad High School had touchdown catches of 43, 78 and 30 yards in the first half as Los Angeles Harbor College had no answers on defense.

Selenski was active for a third straight week and is third on the team in tackles for the year. The freshman from JSerra High had six tackles, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery against the Seahawks last weekend.

Saddleback is also moving up in the national rankings as the Gauchos moved up to No. 8 in the country according to JCGridiron.com. The Gauchos will get a tough test when they host El Camino College in the home opener this Saturday, Sept. 23. The Warriors are ranked No. 17 in the JCGridiron Dirty 30 Rankings.

For those unable to make the game this Saturday, it will be streamed live on the Gaucho Sports Network starting at 6 p.m.

WATER POLO

The Saddleback men’s water polo team had a successful weekend by winning three-of-four games at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational held at Citrus College. The Gauchos now stand at 5-2 on the season.

Saddleback has a freshman-dominated lineup and a new coaching staff so it was unclear of what to expect in the first big test of the season. The Gauchos passed with flying colors, splitting two games on Friday, Sept. 15, and winning twice on Saturday, Sept. 16.

Saddleback opened the tournament with a convincing 15-5 win over Chaffey College on Friday.  Sophomore Max Gonter led the team with six goals as the Gauchos had a 4-1 lead after one quarter and never looked back.

Game two was a tough matchup with host Citrus, who came in with a 5-1 record and ended up getting the best of the Gauchos, 20-13. After a quick start by the Owls, Saddleback cut the lead to 14-10 heading into the fourth quarter but ran out of gas. Keeon Jabbour led the Gauchos with five goals in the loss.

Day two of the tournament was sensational for Saddleback as the Gauchos raced past Southwestern (27-8) and Rio Hondo (23-5).

The Gauchos led 12-3 after the opening quarter against Southwestern, with Nathan Benge scoring five times in the opening quarter. Oscar Lopez would end up leading the team with six goals in the game.  Saddleback then blasted Rio Hondo in the final game behind Gonter, who netted nine goals in the match.

The Gauchos will next play today and tomorrow, Sept. 22-23, at the San Diego Mesa Tournament.
