Drizzle art around Anaheim on display

Robert Holton, an Anaheim resident and businessman, has been invited for a solo art exhibit by the city.

The “Anaheim, Sign of the Times, Then and Now” exhibition of Holton’s drizzle art opened earlier this month and will be on display until Aug. 12 at the Downtown Community Center, 250 E Center St.

It is a great show that features pieces with lots of memories of Anaheim spots over the years.

Collecting Disneyland memories for a legacy box

The Ebell Club is planning a 2025 Legacy Box and has been collecting input on what to include in the time capsule.

The 2025 Legacy Box will be set to be opened in 2050.

Anaheim residents of all ages and backgrounds have been invited to share. Poetry, photos, and drawings can all be included.

Ebell Club members also want to include people’s stories for Disneyland’s 70th anniversary and guests are invited to share their memories and thoughts of Disneyland.

The Disneyland program is scheduled for 10 to 11:30 a.m. on July 24 at the Ebell Club, 228 N. Helena St. For more information, contact Hilary at 714-394-1459.

These boots are made for painting

Anaheim artist Jack Knight is working on a project with the Pacific Symphony that involves painting old boots.

In August, he will be hosting a painting project that requires old paintable boots.  If you have old boots to donate, contact Jack at 919-701-7621.

The Historic Preservation Committee meets throughout the year and offers residents an opportunity to learn more about what is being done in Anaheim for historic preservation.

The Anaheim Public Library branches have lots of activities planned this summer for all ages.

The Anaheim Summer Series is presenting Pearson Park Summer Nights Under the Stars.

The Disneyland Resort is again sponsoring the summer entertainment series.  These are family and cultural shows in the park’s amphitheater.

The series will feature magicians, cultural performances and dance performances, including the Anaheim Ballet. Tickets are $5 and some shows are free.

There are also free concerts on Aug. 2, 9, 16 and 23. Tickets are available online at Anaheim.net/pearsontheatre.

Anaheim Family YMCA Community Market planned

The Anaheim Family YMCA is planning a community market on July 12.

There will be vintage clothes, live music, furniture, books, art, food, drinks, plants, collectibles and toys all for sale.  You can donate used clothing, books, toys, and more to the Anaheim YMCA until July 10.

Muzeo offers a summer concert series

The Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center is offering a free summer concert series, California Jammin’, that you don’t want to miss.

Up next is Deke Dickerson and the Whippersnappers on July 24 and the last concert will be Aug. 28. All are outdoor at the Muzeo and family friendly. Lawn chairs are encouraged and even bring a picnic.

The Anaheim Sister City Commission has recently reorganized and is busy with a variety of activities.

The Anaheim student ambassadors are being trained for their trip to Mito, Japan, where they will stay with a Japanese family and receive a real cultural experience.

Also, the Mito ambassadors are arriving in August to spend time in Anaheim.  This is a 49-year relationship.

And, there are plans for creating a sister city relationship in Mexico soon. The Anaheim Sister City group is looking for support to fund the hosting of students. For more information, contact Lori Dinwiddie at lori@dinwiddieland.com.

It’s time for several Anaheim High class reunions.

Sharps disposal is available in the city, but there are special procedures to dispose of the items.

In order to protect waste haulers and others against injury and contamination, there are special steps to dispose of needles and sharps.

Use a sealed, puncture-proof container and take advantage of the free disposal services at the Anaheim Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center at 1071 N. Blue Gum St.

There is a free CPR certification course being offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 27 in the office of Realtor Meghan Shigo.

Muzeo offers a summer concert series

The Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center is offering a free summer concert series, California Jammin’, that you don’t want to miss.

Get involved with historic preservation in Anaheim

There is an opportunity to take an active part in preservation efforts in Anaheim’s historic neighborhoods by joining the community-based Anaheim Historic Preservation Committee.

Applications for membership are being accepted through July 1. New members will be chosen by Oct. 1.

Members advocate for the preservation of historic properties, support the city’s Historic Mills Act Program and more. HPC meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month and are open to the public. Get involved.

Mills Act/historic home workshop coming up in spring

The Anaheim Planning Department and the Historic Preservation Committee will host a 6 to 7 p.m. community meeting on May 27 for historic homeowners interested in learning more about the Mills Act.

The Mills Act will be explained and discussed, so if you have a home with a Mills Act agreement (particularly if you purchased your home with the Mills Act already in place and want more information on what that entails) or if you are interested in finding out if your home qualifies for the Mills Act, you don’t want to miss the meeting.

Muzeo has Bingo night planned

The Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center is offering a Bingo fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. on May 31.

Organizers say visitors should feel free to come in costume and unleash their inner superhero (or embrace their villainous side) for an epic showdown at the second annual fundraiser, themed Heroes & Villains this year.

Local academy plans fundraising tourney

St. Catherine’s Academy is holding its 34th annual golf tournament on May 19.

This year’s event will honor the Anaheim Police Department and will be held at the Tustin Ranch Golf Club.  There will be an 8 a.m. registration and a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

Learn more about famed Coach Van

Thanks to the efforts of the Anaheim Historical Society board, there will be a special book talk and signing for “Coach Van: The Life of Clare Van Hoorebeke” by Anaheim High alumni Dennis Bateman.

Coach Van was head coach for the Colonist football team for more than 20 year and is credited with influencing high school football coaching around the region.

The event will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on April 25 in the multipurpose room of the Anaheim Central Library, 500 W. Broadway.

May Day at Founders’ Park

Some fun is scheduled at Founders’ Park with an old-time May Day celebration.

Kids ages 5 to 12 are invited to make May baskets, create nature sun prints, take part in a gardening project, play traditional outdoor games and dance around the Maypole.

Visit the historic Woelke-Stoffel House, Mother Colony House and Carnege House.

Older adults can access resources, wellness

The city is hosting its spring Active Older Adult Wellness Fair and Craft Boutique soon.

There will be health care, resource information, demonstrations, health screenings and more at the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. fair on May 3 at Downtown Community Center.

Dancing, a bake sale and a craft boutique will also be offered.

Easter extravaganza in the planning for Anaheim community

A family friendly, fun-filled happening will be presented by Mondragon Family Market and Wings of Kindness next month in celebration of Easter and bringing people together.

Learn more about famed Coach Van

Thanks to the efforts of the Anaheim Historical Society board, there will be a special book talk and signing for “Coach Van: The Life of Clare Van Hoorebeke” by Anaheim High alumni Dennis Bateman.

Coach Van was head coach for the Colonist football team for more than 20 year and is credited with influencing high school football coaching around the region.

The event will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on April 25 in the multipurpose room of the Anaheim Central Library, 500 W. Broadway.

Anaheim Community Services is presenting a Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 3.

The free family fun will be held 3 to 9 p.m. at the new Center Greens Park, 305 E. Broadway.  There will be food, music, vendors, local entertainment, community booths and a kids’ zone.

May Day at Founders’ Park

Some fun is scheduled at Founders’ Park with an old-time May Day celebration.

Kids ages 5 to 12 are invited to make May baskets, create nature sun prints, take part in a gardening project, play traditional outdoor games and dance around the Maypole.

Visit the historic Woelke-Stoffel House, Mother Colony House and Carnege House.

Special choir performance planned

Anaheim First Presbyterian Church is offering a performance of “Requiem” on April 13.

In response to the recent suffering from the wildfires and those struggling with current national upheaval, plus preparation with Holy Week, the church’s Chancel Choir is offering John Rutter’s “Requiem” during worship at 10:30 a.m. on April 13.

Older adults can access resources, wellness

The city is hosting its spring Active Older Adult Wellness Fair and Craft Boutique soon.

There will be health care, resource information, demonstrations, health screenings and more at the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. fair on May 3 at Downtown Community Center.

Dancing, a bake sale and a craft boutique will also be offered.

Residents can fill up on compost

Anaheim residents can get free compost for gardens, yards and landscaping during a giveaway from 7 to 10 a.m. (while supplies last) on March 29 at Angel Stadium.

You can get up to 60 gallons.

Enter the Big A parking lot at the Douglass Road entrance off Katella Avenue and bring proof of Anaheim residency – driver’s license or utility bill. You will also need your own sturdy buckets or containers for holding heavy compost – no bags.

Citizenship clinic coming to the area

U.S. Rep. Lou Correa, who represents California’s 46th District, is bringing a citizenship clinic to the area on April 4.

Registration is required for the from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. clinic, call 714-559-6190.  Eligibility includes having been a lawful permanent resident for the last five years or three years if married to a U.S. citizen and have continuous residence in the U.S. as a lawful permanent resident.

Mills Act/historic home workshop coming up

The Anaheim Planning Department and the Historic Preservation Committee will host a community meeting on May 28 for historic homeowners.

The Mills Act will be explained and discussed, so if you have a home with a Mills Act agreement (particularly if you purchased your home with the Mills Act already in place and want more information on what that entails) or if you are interested in finding out if your home qualifies for the Mills Act, you don’t want to miss the 6 to 7 p.m. meeting.

Community yard sale downtown

Downtown Anaheim residents are encouraged to schedule their yard sale with the entire neighborhood on March 1.

Yard sales may be open from 7 a.m. to noon. Meghan Shigo is promoting the yard sale and creating a map to share with interested shoppers.

Here is an opportunity for students to learn, explore and serve with the Anaheim Sister City student exchange program.
