Stanton voters are poised to elect two new representatives for District 2 and District 4, and to approve Measure HH, which will set mayoral term limits.
In District 2, challenger Victor Barrios has jumped to a substantial lead over incumbent Hong Alyce Van. As of Wednesday’s end-of-day update of ballot counting, Barrios had captured more than 61% of the vote: 883 votes to 546 for Van. Barrios, a special education educator, has also served on the city’s Community Services Commission.
In the District 4 race, there is no incumbent with longtime councilmember Carol Warren not running again.
John Douglas Warren leads Mike Montgomery 1,498 votes to 615 votes. Warren is an account supervisor and creative lead at a communications firm. He’s previously served on the city’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission and the county parks commission.

As of Wednesday, 66.5% of votes counted on Measure HH have been in favor of the lifetime limit on serving as the city’s mayor. The ballot measure needs a simple majority of votes to pass.
Going forward, Stanton mayors would be able to serve two four-year terms, mirroring the term limits previously set in 2016 by voters for other councilmembers. The city attorney’s office had given the opinion that Measure RR did not apply to the mayor’s position because it was voted in before the mayor became an elected seat.
The Registrar of Voters said after election night, results will be updated daily at 5 p.m., except on weekends, until the counting is complete.
