A driver was arrested on suspicion of murder and DUI after a multi-vehicle crash in Stanton that killed a man and injured another person, authorities said Saturday, May 3.

The crash occurred at about 11 p.m. Friday in the area of a Magnolia and Pacific avenues, Sgt. Gerard McCann of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies discovered that a Dodge sedan and a Toyota van had collided head-on and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle, according to a statement from the department issued Saturday afternoon.

Paramedics pronounced the van driver, Hoanh Thanh Ngo, 55, of Stanton, dead at the scene and rushed another person to a hospital, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

The other driver, James Anthony Deleon, 30, of Irvine, fled the scene on foot but was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence with a prior conviction a short distance from the crash, the OCSD statement said.

Deleon was booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder and DUI causing injury.

No further information was immediately available.
