Orange County will be well-represented at the CIF State boys golf championships.
Santa Margarita and four county individual qualifiers ensured that Thursday by shooting well under-par at the CIF/SCGA Southern California Regional at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills.
The Trinity League co-champion Eagles qualified for state by placing third behind La Serna and Torrey Pines. Santa Margarita recorded a 3-under-par score of 367 to finish two strokes behind Torrey Pines and five behind La Serna.
The Eagles’ scoring players were: sophomore Ronin Banerjee (4-under-par 70), senior Hudson Vedder (72), freshman Anthony Wu (73), junior Landon Frank (75) and freshman Daniel He (77).
Sunny Hills narrowly missed the top-three placement needed to advance with a score of 369, which tied with Palm Desert for fourth.
Corona del Mar junior Matthew Hull led the county individual qualifiers by placing third with a 6-under-68.
Hull, who is committed to UCLA, recorded seven birdies and one bogey in finishing one shot behind winner Brady McHenry of Buena and runner-up Hill Wang of La Serna.
The county’s other individual qualifiers were Beckman freshman Aadhavan Prasad (69), Irvine junior Shawn Nawata (69) and Mater Dei sophomore Brayden Jones (70). Prasad and Nawata tied in a group for fourth to advance.
Banerjee finished 13th.
The CIF State championships are Tuesday, June 3 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
