Name: Leo Francis

School: Santa Margarita

Sport: Track and field

Year: Senior

Noteworthy: He won the long jump with a mark of 25 feet, 0.75 inches (wind-aided) and finished third in the 200 at 20.84 seconds in the CIF State Track and Field Championships. Francis supplied 16 of Santa Margarita’s 24 team points. Santa Margarita finished third in the team standings. HIs long jump mark in the state meet is the eighth-best in all conditions in the nation this season. He will attend the University of Pennsylvania this fall.

Name: Jaslene Massey

School: Aliso Niguel

Sport: Track and field

Year: Junior

Noteworthy: Massey became the first Orange County girl to capture the discus at the CIF State Championships since El Toro’s Hilary Fraser in 2007 by throwing 163 feet and 9 inches in Clovis. Massey placed second in the shot put with a throw of 45-5 1/4 as she attempted to become only the second county girl to ever to sweep the discus and shot put at the state finals.

Noteworthy: He pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts and also drove in two runs and scored a run in the Barons’ 7-0 win over Trabuco Hills in the second round of the CIF-SS baseball playoffs and was 2 for 3 with two runs scored in their 5-2 win over Torrance in the quarterfinals. Grack, a pitcher/first baseman, went into Tuesday’s semifinals batting .337 and was 7-2 on the mound with a 1.69 ERA.

Noteworthy: Valbuena recorded two complete-game victories with double-digit strikeouts to help the Vikings reach their first CIF-SS final since 1995. In the Division 3 quarterfinals, she threw a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts in a 3-1 win at St. Paul. The Michigan commit tossed a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 4-0 victory at Yorba Linda in the semifinals.

Noteworthy: The Stanford-bound senior won the Division 2 1,600 in the CIF Southern Section Track and Field Championships in 4 minutes, 3.71 seconds and the 3,200 (9:01.61). He set a Division 2 finals record in the 1,600 and it was the fourth-best time in Orange County history.

Year: Senior

Noteworthy: The Cal signee claimed two individual events and led off a pair of first-place relays to power the Eagles to a sixth consecutive CIF State championship. O’Dell established Orange County and meet records in the 100-yard backstroke (50.82 prelims) and challenged her national record in touching first in the 200 IM (1:53.96). She also set a meet record for the 100 free (48.02).

Noteworthy: He set Orange County records in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke at the CIF-SS Division 1 championships. Hitchens, who will go to Columbia, won the 100 free in 43.79 seconds and the 100 back in 47.19 to win Division 1 titles in both events. His 100 free time broke the oldest county boys record of 43.85 set by six-time Olympian Derya Buyukuncu of Woodbridge in 1994.

Rancho Alamitos beat Flintridge Preps 3-2 in the first round and beat Saugus 3-2 in the second round. The Vaqueros (20-9) play at Vista Murrieta (18-19) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Noteworthy: The Cal-bound O’Dell broke the Orange County record of Olympian Katie McLaughlin set in 2015 by winning the 200-yard freestyle at the Trinity League finals in 1 minute, 42.98 seconds. She also captured the 100 butterfly in a league-record time of 52.17 and raced on two winning relays as the Eagles claimed a 25th consecutive league title.
