CIF STATE BOYS VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
DIVISION II
CLOVIS BUCHANAN (30-16) VS. MATER DEI (30-12-2)
Where, when: Fresno City College, Friday, 5 p.m.
Outlook: This is the first season for CIF State finals in boys volleyball. Buchanan is the CIF Northern California Regional Division II champion. Buchanan defeated Loomis Del Oro 3-1 in its Regional final. Mater Dei is the CIF Southern California Division II champion. It is Mater Dei’s second SoCal Regional boys volleyball championship. The Monarchs defeated San Diego Francis Parker in its Regional final. Mater Dei junior Ben Smith leads the Monarchs in kills with 478. The Monarchs won the CIF Southern Section Division 2 championship. Buchanan and Mater Dei were seeded No. 1 in their Regional divisions.
DIVISION III
SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL (27-7) VS. SAGE HILL (22-11)
Where, when: Fresno City College, Saturday, 1:30 p.m.
Outlook: This is the first season for CIF State finals in boys volleyball. International won the CIF Northern California Regional Division III championship with a 3-1 victory over Branham in the Northern California Regional Division III final. Sage Hill beat San Diego Clairemont in the CIF Southern California Regional Division III final for the Lightning’s first Regional title in boys volleyball. The Lighting won the CIF Southern Section Division 4 championship. Sage Hill 6-9 senior outside hitter Jackson Cryst signed with Long Beach State for volleyball.
